JOKER: GET DOWN, YALLLL

"whaddap purps"

If you dig hella heavy Friday night dance party sh*T, you in the right place.

Don't confuse Joker with the Batman villain of the same name. Although both wear copious amounts of purple, they have little else in common. One is a conniving prankster, & the other drops wonky, synth-laden, bass driven tracks that sonically assault yr earholes. THIS is the music that should be "up in da club", yo. It's not surprising Joker is tight w/ fellow dubstepper & rising star, Flying Lotus. Just saw him @ Coachella & he straight ripped it. Definitely gonna be a big year for both these mugs.

Scope these tracks & get yr grime on.

joker - "tron"
joker - "digidesign"
tc & joker - "it ain't got a name"

breakout: moss of aura

cover to the newest will smith movie, "i am nebula"

There is good music, great music, & then there is I-HAVE-TO-DOWNLOAD-YOU-IMMEDIATELY music. Moss of Aura absolutely qualifies in that coveted category. Hazed out electro jamz - similar to contemporaries Washed Out & Millionyoung - but heavier w/ bigger & badder beats. Which reminds me, Washed Out, Small Black & Pictureplane @ Rickshaw Stop March 28th. Gonna be the jumpoff, sen. Now quick, listen before it's too late.

moss of aura - swilling
moss of aura - thundra
moss of aura - team

JOSIAH WOLF

Josiah Wolf is the drummer & multi-instrumentalist for the lauded band WHY?. He's also a professional reindeer, in his mind. Josiah is stepping outside of his kit to release his 1st solo album "Jet Lag" on Anticon, March 2nd. It's an amalgam of folk & pop, w/ a wee dash of psyche. Check out 2 stellar tracks below. Listen & Like.

Josiah Wolf - Master Cleanse (California)
Josiah Wolf - The Trailer & The Truck

the young sinclairs

The Young Sinclairs are a band from Virginia who sound straight outta 1960...like, seriously. They play summery psychedelic pop, & they play it very, very well. Be on the lookout for the album The Songs of the Young Sinclairs soon to be released on Kindercore. If you know what's good for you, you'll take a listen.

Young Sinclairs - Tribe

Young Sinclairs - Darling

Young Sinclairs - Help You Decide

Oh & did I mention they sound like the Byrds?

NEW DANG!

"a few loose ends, you gotta tie em up"

New demo from the enigmatic duo. Scope it, download it, & leave yr commentz!

DANG! - slipping through the cracks (in your heart)

So...who & what da L is DANG!?

DANG! is the side-project of Greg Mabry (Heartbeater) & myself. We write & record songs when were together, which isn't often anymore since he lives in TN & I live in CA. We penned this song while Charmaine & I were in Nashville during our winter trip. It's recorded @ the Vaticon, aka the mansion where Heartbeater / Ascent of Everest / Evil Bebos reside.

FIONN REGAN :: THE SHADOW OF AN EMPIRE

Oh the joy of getting a new album you've been waiting for. It's like Christmas all over again, or Hanukkah, or Festivus. It's that good.

Unlike the stripped-down acoustic timbre of "The End of History", his newest offering is saturated w/ electric guitars & a backing band. Fionn evokes a Bob Dylan-esque rollicking vocal style across most of "The Shadow of an Empire" - think "Subterranean Homesick Blues" - while adding his own unique spin to the equation. He's always been one for fresh, poetic lyrics, & he certainly continues that tradition here. He even rhymes "glasses" w/ "Mr. Onassis". Fionn is quite the clever cat.

*UPDATE: Received a complaint from Blogger about hosting the album & mp3s. Had to delete the content.

wild nothing

"just hanging out in a coin-op laundromat, fixing my buttonz. cool duder."

Check out this hooky new jam from up-&-coming Wild Nothing (pictured above). This kid knows what he's doing. It's poppy, it's enthusiastic, it's fierce. Well, maybe not quite fierce. But you get the idea. Listen to it, download it, & keep your eyes open for the full-length "Gemini" on Captured Tracks due out in May. Yay!

hey cool kid

:: JAM OF THE DAY ::

Cloud Nothings - "Hey Cool Kid"

It's loose, unpolished, lo-fi, & has a hella good hook. I'm definitely into it. Also, CN is from Cleveland. Gotta rep the ole hometown. The rest of the album/tape (they're part of the relatively new tape scene) is legit too. According to the Cloud Nothings myspace page, they have a bunch of projects in the works. I can see them gaining traction very soon. Keep it on your radar if you dig the sound.

(nashville)

Bring on the streamers and fireworks, we have entered the year of the tiger. How's that for poetic justice, Tiger Wood's unraveling happens directly before the year of his namesake. Eh who care's about him.

So it's been quite a while since the last post. Charmaine and I have been traveling for the last 3 weeks - San Diego, then Cleveland, then Nashville. It was a long & wild ride, to say the least. Watching season 1 of X-Files till 4am every night on a projector screen was definitely a highlight. I'll be posting a new mix soon, prolly tonight. Stay tuned!

WHITE ANTELOPE :: unrealeased

The last few days I've been maxing out on White Antelope, which is Robin Pecknold's (lead singer of Fleet Foxes) solo-effort. He doesn't have an official release, but he did put a bunch of songs on a myspace page a lil while ago. Most of them are covers, but there are a couple originals. If you like FF, you will most definitely like these tunes. In related news, Robin has started a separate side-project w/ his sister, & supposedly they are recording soon. Also, Fleet Foxes are starting to prepare their 2nd album. Totally Righteous.

Note: The recordings are pretty lo-fi & quiet, so make sure you turn this ish up!

BEACH HOUSE :: "TEEN DREAM"

The new Beach House LP "Teen Dream" was leaked yesterday & you know I was on dat w/ the quickness! It's been playing non-stop in our apartment since I snagged it up. Yeah, it's the heat. This has actually been a hella good week for music, cause today the Animal Collective EP "Fall Be Kind" also got leaked. Speaking of AC, if you liked Merriweather Post Pavilion you will totally dig the newest offering. It's a seamless extension of the MPP style; once again they blend melodic vocals w/ their idiosyncratic brand of electronic psychedelia. Anyway, back to Beach House - I was fortunate enough to grab the album before it was taken off the web...so ima share it w/ you. BANG!

Cinnamon Chasers -- electronic/dance/house.

fleetwood crack

thats right, im addicted...to fleetwood mac (& you should be too).

ok, so everybody knows the fleetwood mega hits like "dreams", "the chain", "yesterdays gone", etc., & not many can argue w/ the level of amazing-ness of said tunes. this band of pop geniuses have so many more jams that dont receive as much recognition tho. i put together a little zip file of some of my favorite underplayed / lesser-known tracks. all of these are from the stevie nicks & lindsey buckingham era (aka, the coke years). this is the time when they were truly at the top of their game & also amidst the most emotional tumult - divorces, breakups, extreme drug use, band members quiting - you know, the good stuff that exponentially fortified their song-writing. lindsey shreds on guitar & stevie, well, stevie is a diva & lyrical demi-god. if you dont know a lot of fleetwood mac, this is a nice intro to their sound. if you already have all these cuts, then youre prolly as hooked as me. either way, enjoi!
